Clippers
Clipper Monsoon was a Pan Am 707. Shown here in Melbourne, Australia. March 1976.
Clipper Great Republic was a Pan American World Airways 747SP. Similar to a full-sized 747, the SP was somewhat smaller but more capable. SP means Special Performance. (shown here taking off from SFO, 03 July 1979)
Clipper Stargazer, one of many DC-10s Pan Am acquired in the merger with National Airlines. Tri-jets are becoming more and more rare and soon these elegant jets will be gone.
The China Clipper. The original Martin M-130 was named the China Clipper, but this name soon referred to all three Martin flying boats as well as the later Boeing B-314s. See my post on the home page about this incredible aircraft.
The Lockheed Constellation is considered by many to be the most beautiful airliner ever built. I has great art deco lines, just like the Golden Gate Bridge. This is Clipper America over San Francisco.
